Teagan Croft & Milo Manheim to Headline Disney's Live-Action *Tangled*
(MHN reporter Im Se-bin) Disney has officially launched production for its live-action take on the beloved fairy tale *Tangled*, and the long-awaited lead cast has been locked in. On January 7 (local time), U.S. entertainment media Variety reported that Teagan Croft has been cast as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider in the upcoming film. Last November, U.S. media outlet AllKPop had claimed that Disney was searching for high-profile celebrities to boost box office revenue and attract viewers, with BLACKPINK’s Lisa being named a strong candidate for the role of Rapunzel, but it now appears those talks did not result in a casting offer.
*Tangled* is based on the 2010 animated film of the same name, which follows the story of Rapunzel, a young girl with magically growing long golden hair who has spent her entire life confined to a tower. Her world opens up when she encounters the charming rogue Flynn Rider, who helps her escape the tower and experience the outside world for the first time. The original animated feature featured voice work from Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and later expanded into the short film *Tangled Ever After* and the Disney Channel animated series *Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure*, which further explored the characters' journeys.
The live-action adaptation is in capable hands, with Michael Gracey, the director behind *The Greatest Showman*, set to helm the project. The screenplay will be written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for her work on various hit films and series. Kristin Burr, who produced Disney’s *Cruella*, will serve as the producer, while Lucy Kitada will take on the role of executive producer. Despite the cast announcement, Disney has not yet revealed specific production timelines or an official release date for the live-action film.
Teagan Croft, the Australian actress stepping into Rapunzel’s shoes, first gained international recognition for her role as Rachel Roth, also known as Raven, in the DC Universe series *Titans*. She also delivered a critically acclaimed performance in the Netflix biographical film *True Spirit*, where she portrayed Jessica Watson, the youngest person to complete a solo non-stop circumnavigation of the world. Milo Manheim, the American actor cast as Flynn Rider, is a familiar face to Disney fans thanks to his lead role in the *Zombies* film franchise. He also rose to fame as the runner-up in Season 27 of the popular U.S. reality competition show *Dancing with the Stars*.
