SBS and Sinclair Executives Signing MOU at CES 2026 for K-Content Channel Partnership

[SBS Entertainment News | Reporter Kang Sun-ae] SBS has officially struck a strategic partnership with Sinclair, a prominent U.S. over-the-air broadcaster, to bring its diverse range of broadcasting content directly to audiences across the United States via local terrestrial networks. This landmark collaboration marks a significant step forward for K-content's global expansion, as it breaks new ground in how Korean terrestrial programming reaches American viewers. After months of negotiations, the two media giants have finalized their agreement, setting the stage for a dedicated K-content channel that will showcase some of SBS's most popular shows.

On January 8th, U.S. time, during the ongoing CES 2026 event in Las Vegas, Nevada, SBS (led by CEO Bang Moon-shin) and Sinclair (headed by CEO Del Parks) signed a memorandum of understanding focused on strengthening their global content cooperation ties. This signing ceremony took place amid the bustling atmosphere of CES, the world's largest consumer electronics show, highlighting the innovative nature of their partnership. Both executives emphasized the importance of this collaboration not only for their respective companies but also for the broader exchange of cultural content between Korea and the U.S.

Sinclair is set to launch a dedicated K-content channel by leveraging ATSC 3.0, a cutting-edge next-generation technology that integrates terrestrial broadcasting with high-speed internet connectivity. This technology will allow for seamless, high-quality transmission of content while also enabling interactive features that enhance the viewing experience. SBS will supply a curated selection of its key dramas and hit variety programs, including fan-favorite shows like SBS 'Kkokkomu', to fill the channel's lineup. Once this service officially goes live in the U.S., it will make history as the first time Korean terrestrial content is directly broadcast through a local U.S. terrestrial broadcasting network, bypassing traditional streaming or cable platforms.

In addition to content distribution, SBS and Sinclair have outlined plans to collaborate across multiple other areas of the media industry. This includes joint efforts in AI-powered content production, where they will explore how artificial intelligence can streamline and enhance the creation of broadcasting content. They also aim to work together in the broadcast advertising sector, developing new strategies to reach audiences more effectively and drive engagement for advertisers. These extended collaborations reflect a shared vision to innovate beyond just content delivery and shape the future of global broadcasting.

SBS CEO Bang Moon-shin expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "I'm extremely excited that SBS content will be available via U.S. terrestrial networks, as this will allow a much wider audience of Americans to experience the unique charm of our programs. This is a major milestone for SBS's global expansion efforts, and we are committed to continuing this momentum." He added, "SBS will continue to accelerate partnerships with leading global media groups to further the spread of K-broadcasting content and solidify its position as a key player in the global entertainment landscape."

Del Parks, Chief Technology Officer of Sinclair, shared his optimism about the collaboration, saying, "It's a great privilege to partner with SBS, a true leader in K-broadcasting content with a proven track record of creating hit shows that resonate with audiences worldwide. We believe that combining the powerful data transmission capabilities of ATSC 3.0 with SBS's high-quality, culturally rich content will offer American viewers an entirely new viewing experience." He also noted, "This partnership has the potential to redefine content distribution models, opening up new avenues for cross-cultural content sharing and media innovation."
