Xbox Game Pass January 2026 lineup announcement banner featuring controller and game logos

It is officially a good time to be a subscriber. Xbox Game Pass has just confirmed the arrival of nine complimentary games for this month's lineup, featuring a highly anticipated day-one release. After a bit of a rocky patch, this is exactly the kind of news we love to hear. Happy days indeed!

We cannot ignore the elephant in the room, though. Towards the end of last year, Microsoft made the controversial decision to hike the prices for its Game Pass tiers. In certain regions, fans saw costs skyrocket by nearly 50%, which was a tough pill to swallow for many loyal users.

Naturally, that sudden spike led plenty of gamers to cancel their subscriptions or drop down to a cheaper tier, and honestly, who could blame them? However, to play devil's advocate for a moment, that price adjustment came with a promise of a revamped structure. The Ultimate tier, in particular, was slated to receive a significantly higher volume of quality titles and perks throughout the year to justify the cost.

Nine Fresh Games Arriving This Month

As recently detailed on Xbox Wire, the service is delivering on that value proposition with nine new additions across the board. The standout star here is definitely the day-one launch of MIO: Memories in Orbit. This intriguing title comes from the team at Douze Dixièmes and is being published by Focus Entertainment.

In this game, players step into the metallic shoes of MIO, an android exploring the Vessel. It is described as a mesmerizing Metroidvania set in a colossal technological ark that has been overrun by rogue machines. Your job is to uncover secrets, upgrade your skills, and save the ship's inhabitants from being wiped out. It sounds like a solid adventure for fans of the genre.

If you are eager to jump in, MIO: Memories in Orbit is scheduled to land on PC, Xbox Series X/S, cloud gaming, and handheld devices on January 20, 2026. Keep an eye on game news updates for more details as we get closer to the date.

Horror Hits and More in January 2026

Looking beyond the day-one indie gem, the heavy hitter for me personally has to be Resident Evil Village. Originally released back in 2021, it stands tall as one of the finest horror experiences of that year. It serves as the dramatic conclusion to the Ethan Winters saga and introduced the world to one of gaming's most unforgettable villains, Lady Dimitrescu.

On the topic of the iconic Lady Dimitrescu, I actually had the chance to chat with Maggie Robertson, the brilliant actor who brought her to life. It was a fascinating conversation covering everything from the overwhelming fan adoration to the supportive Resident Evil community, and even touching on personal loss. It gave a whole new layer of depth to the character for me.

Resident Evil Village is set to terrify players starting January 20 on Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. While we are still waiting on the full list of the other titles to round out the nine games, these two alone make for a strong start to the year. Hopefully, this lineup helps justify sticking around after those price changes!
