Bringing K-Content to American Living Rooms: A Historic Partnership
Big changes are coming to the broadcasting landscape as SBS takes a massive leap into the North American market. In a move that promises to reshape how viewers consume international entertainment, SBS has officially teamed up with Sinclair Broadcast Group, a major player in US terrestrial broadcasting. The two media giants signed a "Strategic Partnership" to distribute SBS content across the United States, marking a significant milestone in global media cooperation.
The agreement was solidified on January 8th (local time) amidst the technological buzz of CES 2026 in Las Vegas. During the event, SBS President Bang Moon-shin and Sinclair CEO Del Parks put pen to paper on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening global content cooperation. This isn't just a standard distribution deal; it represents a dedicated effort to make Korean entertainment more accessible than ever before to American audiences.

The Power of ATSC 3.0 and NextGen TV
At the heart of this collaboration lies the cutting-edge technology known as ATSC 3.0, or NextGen TV. Sinclair plans to leverage this advanced standard, which fuses traditional terrestrial broadcasting with high-speed internet capabilities, to launch a dedicated "K-Content Channel."
For fans of Korean culture, this is huge news. SBS has committed to supplying its premium lineup of hit dramas and popular variety shows to this new channel. Once fully operational, this service will mark the very first instance of Korean terrestrial content being transmitted directly through a local US terrestrial broadcast network, bypassing the need for third-party streaming apps for basic access.
Expanding Horizons: AI and Advertising
The partnership extends beyond just airing TV shows. Both companies are looking to the future, agreeing to deepen their cooperation in other critical areas. This includes utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for innovative content production and exploring new opportunities in the broadcast advertising sector. By combining resources, they aim to stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving digital media environment.
Leaders Share Their Vision
The excitement surrounding this deal is palpable among the leadership of both organizations. SBS President Bang Moon-shin expressed his anticipation for the project's potential impact.
"I am very excited that many Americans will now be able to watch SBS content through US terrestrial broadcasting," Bang stated. "SBS plans to accelerate cooperation with global media groups to further the spread of K-broadcast content."
On the other side of the partnership, Sinclair's President of Technology, Del Parks, emphasized the technical synergy of the deal. He noted the significance of working with a leader in K-broadcasting.
"It is meaningful to cooperate with SBS, a leader in K-broadcast content," Parks remarked. "We expect that the combination of ATSC 3.0's powerful data transmission capabilities and SBS's content will present a new viewing experience and content distribution model."
